Remove DirectDownloader adware virus

Direct Downloader is a program that claims faster downloading files from the Internet. The program promises to speed-up your downloads, but unfortunately this program is a malicious Adware application and your must remove it as soon as possible before it harms your computer and breakdown your privacy.

When Direct Downloader is installed on your computer, it adds a startup entry, named “DirectDownloader.exe” and violates your computer’s security.

How to remove DirectDownloader malicious software from your computer:

Step 1: Uninstall “DirectDownloader”.

How to uninstall “DirectDownloader” from your computer:

1. Go to:

Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add Remove Programs if you have Windows XP .

or

Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features if you have Windows 8, 7, Vista.

2. From the program list choose the “DirectDownloader” application and press:

“Remove” if you have Windows XP.

or

Uninstall/Change” if you have Windows 8, 7, Vista.

3. Choose “Yes” to close “DirectDownloader” application and proceed to uninstall.

Step 2: Remove "BitAccelerator” extension from your internet browser

A. Internet Explorer

How to Remove "BitAccelerator” extension from Internet Explorer:

1. Open Internet Explorer and then open “Manage Add-ons”.

To do this from IE’s file menu choose “Tools” > “Manage Add-ons”.

Notice*: In the latest versions of IE press the “Gear” icon image on the top right.

2. At “Manage Add-ons” manager, select “Toolbars and Extensions” on the left and from the main window, choose the “BitAccelaratorBHO Class” object and press the “Disable” button on the right down corner to disable it.

3. Close all internet Explorer windows and proceed to Step 3.

 

B. Mozilla Firefox

How to Remove "BitAccelerator” extension from Mozilla Firefox.

1. Open Mozilla Firefox and go to “Tools” > “Add-ons”.

2. At “Manage Add-ons” manager, select “Extensions” on the left and from the main window, choose the “BitAccelarator 1.0” object and press the “Disable” button on this line to disable it.

3. Close all Mozilla Firefox windows and proceed to the next Step.

Step 3: Use “MalwareBytes Anti-Malware” to clean your computer from malicious threats.

1. Download and install “MalwareBytes Anti-Malware” from here.*

Notice*: If you don’t know how to install “MalwareBytes Anti-Malware” read this post.

2. Run “Malwarebytes Anti-Malware” and allow the program to update to it’s latest version and malicious database if needed.

3. When the “Malwarebytes Anti-Malware” main window appears on your screen, choose the default scanning option:

Perform quick scan” and then click “Scan” and let the program scan your system for threats.

4. When the scanning is completed, choose “OK”.

5. Press the “Show results” button to view and remove the malicious threats.

6. At the “Show Results” window check – using your mouse’s left button- all the infected objects and then choose the “Remove Selected” option and let the program remove the selected threats.

7. When the removal process of infected objects is complete, “Restart your system to remove all active threats properly”.

8. After the system restarts, run Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware again to ensure that no other threats are remaining in your system*.

Step 4: Clean your computer from temporary Internet files and invalid registry entries.

Use “CCleaner” program and proceed to clean your system from temporary internet files and invalid registry entries.

Advice: To ensure your computer is clean and safe, perform a Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware full scan in windows “Safe mode“.

{To get into Windows Safe mode, press the “F8” key as your computer is booting up, before the appearance of the Windows logo. When the “Windows Advanced Options Menu” appears on your screen, use your keyboard arrows keys to move to the Safe Mode option and then press “ENTER“}
