Reset Android to Factory Default Settings (How-to)
Sometimes there is the need to restore your Android Device to factory default settings in order to fix problems with your device, like slow performance when opening apps or to remove unwanted software changes caused by viruses or malware programs.Â
The factory restore option, (also known as factory reset), means that all the stored data and settings on your Android device will be erased and your phone will be restored in the out of the box state (the state that came from the manufacturer).
In most cases, the factory reset feature, will resolve issues during device's usage, like slow processing, unresponsive apps, blank screens, stuck on boot issues, or to eliminate operational problems that may be caused after an app installation or after a virus or malware program compromises your device security.
How to Restore/Reset Android to factory state.
You have two available options (methods) to restore your Android device to factory state. *
* Attention: By resetting your Android device to factory state you will loose the following stored data from your device:
- Contacts
- Messages
- Music
- Photos
- Videos
- Google account & Phone account.
- Downloaded apps and their data.
- App settings
So, before proceeding to reset your Android device to its factory settings, make sure that you will take a backup of the data that are stored on it.

Method 1. Reset Android from Settings menu (GUI).
Method 2. Reset Android from Recovery Menu.
Method 1. Reset Android from Settings menu (GUI).
The first method to reset your Android device to factory settings, is by accessing the factory reset option on your device. To do that:
1. Open Android Settings.
2. Tap on Accounts.
3. Under Backup options section, tap Backup and reset.
4. Under Personal data section, tap Factory data reset.
5. Finally, tap at Reset Device and wait until your device is restored to factory settings. *
Method 2. Reset Android from Recovery Menu.
The second method to reset an Android device, is by booting the device into System Recovery Mode (menu).
Step 1. Boot your device to System Recovery Mode (Android Recovery Mode).
The way to boot an Android device, into recovery menu differs from device to device and from manufacturer to manufacturer. Below are mentioned three (3) different ways to boot your Android device into recovery menu.
How to boot to Android Recovery Mode:
Method 1:
1. Power Off your phone.
2. Press and hold down BOTH the Volume Up and the Volume Down keys and then press and hold down the Power button.
3. Release both keys when device turns on.
4. Continue to step-2 below.
Method 2:
1. Power Off your phone.
2. Press and hold down the Volume Down key and then press and hold down the Power button.
3. Release both keys when device turns on.
4. Continue to step-2 below.
Method 3:
1. Power Off your phone.
2. Press and hold down the Volume Up key and then press and hold down the Power button.
3. Release both keys when device turns on.
4. Continue to step-2 below.
Step 2. Reset your Android device to factory state.
1. At Select Boot Mode screen, use the Volume UP key to highlight the Recovery Mode option and then press the Volume Down key to select it.
2. Then use the Volume UP to highlight the "wipe data/factory reset" option, and then press the Volume Down key to select it.
3. Finally use the Volume UP key to highlight the "Yes – delete all user data" option, and then press the Power button (for 2-3 sec) to select it.
4. Wait a few minutes and then reboot your device.
