Remove Funmoods browser hijacker

“Funmoods” or “Facemoods”, is a browser hijacker program that is bundled inside other software installation programs. The “Funmoods” program vendors claim that the program is not adware and it offers emoticons for using at the social media. When Funmoods application is installed, it redirects your searches, changes your internet browser’s extensions and startup page to “Funmoods” search engine (search.funmoods.com), installs the “Funmoods” toolbar and displays advertisements from unknown vendors.

To completely remove “Funmoods” program, follow the following procedure:

How to remove “Funmoods” or “Facemoods” software from your computer

Step 1. Uninstall “Funmoods” from your Control panel.

1. To do this go to Start > Settings > Control Panel.

2. Double click to open “Add or Remove Programs”.

3. In the program list, find “Funmoods” and choose remove (or uninstall if you have Windows 7).

4. Press “OK” to close all browser windows

5. Choose “Yes” to uninstall “Funmoods update process” and let the uninstall to complete.

Step 2: Remove “Funmoods” from your internet browser.

A.Internet Explorer

How to remove “Funmoods" or "Facemoods” search page and “Funmoods Toolbar” from Internet Explorer:

1. Open Internet Explorer and then open “Internet Options”.

To do this from IE’s file menu, choose “Tools” > “Internet Options”.

Notice*: At latest versions of IE, press the “Gear” icon image_thumb18 on the top right.

2. Press the “Advanced” tab.

3. Choose “Reset

4. Mark to enable the “Delete personal settings” box and choose “Reset”.

5. After the resetting action is completed, press “Close” and then choose “OK” to exit Internet Explorer options.

6. Restart your browser and proceed to Step 3.

 

B. Google Chrome

How to remove “Funmoods" or "Facemoods” search page and “Funmoods Toolbar” from Google Chrome .

1. Open Google chrome and go to chrome menu image and choose “Settings”.

2. Find the “On startup” section and choose “Set Pages”.

 3. Delete the “searchfunmoods.com” from startup pages by clicking the “X” symbol on the right.

4. Set your preferred startup page (e.g. http://www.wintips.org) and press “OK”.

5. Go to “Search” section and choose “Manage search engines”.

6.Choose your preferred default search engine (e.g. Yahoo search) and press “Make default”.

7. Then choose the “Funmoods Search” search engine and remove it by pressing the “X” symbol at the right. Choose “OK” to close “Search engines” window.

6. Close all Google Chrome windows and proceed to Step 3.

C. Mozilla Firefox

How to remove “Funmoods" or "Facemoods” search page and “Funmoods Toolbar” from Mozilla Firefox and restore Firefox search settings..

1. Click on “Firefox” menu button on the top left of Firefox window and go to “Help” > “Troubleshooting Information”.

2. In “Troubleshooting Information” window, press “Reset Firefox” button to reset Firefox to its default state.

3. Press “Reset Firefox: again.

4. After the resetting job is completed, Firefox restarts.

5. Close all Firefox windows and proceed to the next Step.

Step 3: Clean your computer from remaining Funmoods malicious threats.

1. Download and install “MalwareBytes Anti-Malware” from here.*

Notice*: If you don’t know how to install “MalwareBytes Anti-Malware” read this post.

2. Run “Malwarebytes Anti-Malware” and allow the program to update to it’s latest version and malicious database if needed.

3. When the “Malwarebytes Anti-Malware” main window appears on your screen, choose the default scanning option:

Perform quick scan” and then choose “Scan” and let the program scan your system for threats.

4. When the scanning is completed, choose “OK

5. Press the “Show results” button to view and remove the malicious threats.

6. At the “Show Results” window check – using your mouse’s left button- all the infected objects and then choose the “Remove Selected” option and let the program remove the selected threats.

7. When the removal of infected objects process is complete, “Restart your system to remove all active threats properly”.

8. After the system restarts, run “Malwarebytes Anti-Malware” again to ensure that no other threats remaining in your system*.

 

Step 4: Delete “Funmoods” scheduled task job.

This step is important: Delete “Funmoodsscheduled task job, from running. To do this:

1. Go to: Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Scheduled Tasks

2. Right Click on “At1” scheduled task job and choose “Delete”.

Step 5: Clean your computer from temporary internet files and invalid registry entries.

The last step is to use “CCleaner” program and proceed to clean your system from temporary internet files and invalid registry entries.

Advice: To ensure your computer is clean and safe, perform a Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware full scan in windows “Safe mode“.

{To get into Windows Safe mode, press the “F8” key as your computer is booting up, before the appearance of the Windows logo. When the “Windows Advanced Options Menu” appears on your screen, use your keyboard arrows keys to move to the Safe Mode option and then press “ENTER“}.
