Hello Tigie. 1. Uninstall any other unknown or unwanted app from your computer.
2. Use the "Geek Uninstaller" utility to remove the nasty program by using these instructions: https://www.wintips.org/you-do-not-have-sufficient-access-to-uninstall-error-fix/.
3. If Snap.Do is not displayed on your browser anymore then open CCleaner > Tools & Uninstall (or delete if you cannot uninstall) the Snap.Do entry.
Good luck.

Many thanks for your advice. I removed Snap.do and associated maggots from my wife's computer after I'd been spoofed into downloading what I believed was Google Translate's desktop icon – she finds it hard to locate 'Translate' from the Google site in IE9.
I've made a donation to thank you for your help.
Just one problem remains: a taskbar icon that's named 'search' – looks like an icon with a "no pictures downloaded" logo. It's just a nuisance, but how can I get rid of it? Every time I mouse over it, a message box opens telling me "An administrator has installed Google Chrome on this system & it is available for all users. the system level Chrome will replace your user-level installation here." I click OK on the box, but it keeps recurring.
Any suggestions on how I can get rid of it?
lakonst
February 11, 2014 @ 1:55 pm
Hello Peter, I appreciate your donation.
About your problem now: Right-click on the taskbar and unselect (uncheck) the corresponding (named 'search' ) toolbar.
Option 2: a. Download & Run CCleaner utility (CCleaner: How to install and use one of the best free registry cleaners to disinfect windows.)
b. Navigate to Tools > Startup.
c. Look at the "Windows" tab and delete the unwanted entry from the Start-Up items list.
(e.g. "Google Desktop Search Google: "C:\Program Files\Google\Google Desktop Search\GoogleDesktop.exe" /startup").
Good luck!

Thanks lakonst. I"ve already tried a right-click on the offending icon but nothing comes up. I'll try your second suggestion.
As part of the snap.do & associated maggot-removal processes I've already run CCleaner Pro; I did look at the Startup entries but can't remember seeing anything untoward. I'll check it again tomorrow, but right now I'm practising French.

Thanks again, lakonst, but I've not been successful. Nothing like the odd icon, or a another "search" file named "Search", or some variant of "Google", shows up. All the other icons are easily removed from the taskbar by simply clicking on them & unpinning from the taskbar but as I mentioned yesterday no "Jump file" menu comes up when I click on this residual icon from Snap,do. Nothing I've tried when I right-click on the empty taskbar has any effect on it, & I've experimented with several options – with no result apart from getting rid of a different icon..
I've looked in the Start menu & it's empty – which is the way I left it since getting that computer.
I've even uninstalled Google & restarted the computer with no effect on that icon.
Looks like I might have to just leave the thing there. Scans with Adwcleaner, JRT, & CCleaner after removal of Snap.do have had no obvious effect either.

Very useful and easy to follow. Much MUCH appreciation for the detailed instructions. Minor tip, if anyone cannot find Snap.do under Uninstall-a-program/Programs and Features, like what happened to me, it's probably disguised under a different name.
Other than Snap.do, it may be any of these: (might have a short description saying its a 'toolbar')
– SmartShopper
– ShopHelper
– SmartBar
– Resoft
Again, thank you.

I've run all the Adware, Malwarebytes and Junkware Removal Tool progs as well as manually editing all my browser setting/preferences and they removed all the nasty files, except 2 programs.
I'm running Windows 8 Pro 64bit.
After doing all the above steps, I found 2 programs that can't be removed. I've tried 3 – 4 times to uninstall them in the Control Panel – Programs and Features – Uninstall.
The file names are = Snap.do and Snap do engine as displayed in the uninstall area/window.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

August 3, 2013 @ 3:24 am
I used the Anvis Labs. step by step and then found your clearer and more precise instructions. And yes I'm not real bright. A combination of both seems to have done the job. I might add a C: search for Snapdo and Tarma also turned up some leads. I have multiple browsers and they communicate with each other (favorites somewhat and likely other things also, maybe preferences) , This may be part of the problem in killing this thing dead, dead, dead.
I picked up both Snapdo and Webcake in the last couple of days, both from Cnet downloads of common programs. Both after opting out of Yahoo search and AVG toolbar, which makes a person wonder? "Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you".
Well anyway six hours later I seem to have been successful. I sure would like six minutes alone with whomever thought Snapdo nd Webcake were good ideas.
It was a learning experience I hope not to repeat anytime soon and yes I will be avoiding Cnet and AVG in the future. As a side note, my web browsing seems a lot quicker than before this ordeal.

Thanks a lot for this. I did get a fright when I copped this rubbish. That will teach me to go against instincts and download a free game. Never again. I have Microsoft Security Essentials on the computer and it did pick up 3 lots of malware/viri immediately but I didn't realise the toolbar and search thingy had been hijacked. I think I have it sorted and am afraid to dowload the adware removal tool lest it clashes with MSEssentials. Do you have time to respond with an answer if that is so please? Also do you take paypal. Great work. Thanks a lot.

July 25, 2013 @ 7:06 pm
Hello Jenny,
Normally, AdwCleaner doesn't have problems with MSEssentials.
But if you face problems, try to disable MSEssentials Real-Time protection by going to:
1. Open MSEssentials
2. In "settings" Tab , choose Real Time Protection from left pane and uncheck the "Turn On real-time protection.
3. Try to run AdwCleaner. *
* If you still experiencing problems, try to clean your computer in Windows Safe mode.
Good Luck

I just straight up can't download any more, I don't know if its snap.do doing it or something else.
I have 2 different virus scanners, a store-bought one: defenderPRO and my dad got Malwarebytes. we have deep scanned the computer and they both say nothing- no malware.
I checked about why I cant download and the two reasons I got were that I either have malware or my scanners were bad.
basically whenever I download a thing, even just a picture or even Itunes, it goes through the whole process, says its downloading and all, but then when it finishes, it just chucks it and I get "virus scan failed"
just saying, I cant download the AdwCleaner I need to finish this.

Thanks, that was very helpful. I'd installed the FileMenu Tools utility, which I've used before and which is pretty good, but I'd skipped through the default dialogues in the installation and ended up installing this adware, which has been the devil to get rid of. Thanks for the useful info. I also got the "Please choose the browser you want to hide snap do from" box, with no chance to remove it. However if I remember correctly, by clicking around you you get to a "Custom" box which leads to the choice of "Hide from all browsers" or "Remove snap.do" and there you are.

Thanks – I just didn't like the way it plans to 'hide' rather than be uninstalled. I can't see that it is the same thing at all. But I will give it a go. Thank you.

It just doesn't appear in Add/Remove Programs. I have reset the browsers but I am to square 1 because I can't find the actual programme anywhere to delete.

When I attempt to remove or uninstall the program, it comes up with a different box from usual saying that says "Please choose the browser you want to hide snap do from", with an icon for firefox and internet explorer. As I feel that hiding it is not what I want to do, I haven't selected anything, I just close the box and it thanks me for choosing to keep it. I've recovered my Firefox settings (I reinstalled) but how do I uninstall the Snap do program?

Welcome Lenore,
The only way to uninstall "Snap.do" is via "Add/Remove Programs" from your control panel. Then you must proceed with next steps in this article.

After you go through and hide it from all your browsers, the next time you try to delete it, it'll actually delete the program.

My daughter got it on her laptop and I am unable to delete because it doesn't appear under the Programs list. I'll try resetting all browsers. Many thanks

OMG! I have been trying to get rid of this for months. I am pretty computer illiterat and these were the easiest most concise directions I ever saw. I followed them and it worked perfectly. Wow, what a bunch of crap this stupid program added to my computer. Your directions made me understand that just "uninstalling" the snap.do was not enough. (because I did figure that out a while ago, but it still kept showing up) I did not know I had to "cleanup" and reset the browser opening settings. THANK YOU!!!!!
