Our home computer was infected with this virus which somehow got around Microsoft Security Essentials. We following the instructions for removal and seem to have been able to get rid of the Virus but it did something to our machine that now prevents us from reinstalling MSE. As a temporary measure we have installed Avast but it is such a system hog I'd like to get back to MSE if possible. Has anyone experienced this difficulty and if so, have you found a fix?

I did a system restore and it seemed to work fine just to a point prior to getting it. Now just gotta try and do a stop payment to this thing. Change bank account and all that put fraud alerts on everything. We shall see. Does the BBB know anything or how to stop this? May be a dumb question but just curious…

How can you remove this virus when it seems to be preventing you from starting the computer in safe mode? F8 will freeze the computer and if i let it load normally, msconfig will not open.

Have you try to run Ccleaner & Malwarebytes Antimalware?

Very helpful. My computer got infected today. Fortunately, I have dual boot and went into Ubuntu and managed to get to this site and I already have Ccleaner installed. It (System Care Antivirus) didn't appear as a program under Programs and Features so I used its shortcut to go to file location and deleted it. The file name is also different and very obscure (just a series of meaningless letters instead of SCA). Thank you once again.

I tried this approach but was unable to download the ccleaner as the virus intercepts the download claiming the file is infected.

Try to log on to Windows using "F8"options at startup and then choose "Safe Mode with Networking"

Try to download RogueKiller and cleaner utilities (from another computer into a usb flash disk) and run them at the infected computer.
