FIX: Spell Check not working in New Teams.
If spell check doesn't work in New Teams app, continue reading below to find out why this might be happening and how to fix the problem.
Issue 1:
Spell check works when you type in the same language as the Windows display language, but not in other installed languages.
Cause:
If spell checking in Teams isn't working in multiple languages (for example, when you're typing in a language other than your Windows display language), you should know that until recently (April 2025), Teams didn't support spell checking for multiple languages, and this feature will be available to all users until July 2025.
Specifically, Microsoft will upgrade the spell check feature with support for up to three languages in future updates of Microsoft Teams from April 2025 to July 2025. (source1, source2).*
* Note: As an alternative, until Microsoft Teams app supports spell checking in multiple languages, you can use the web version of Microsoft Teams.
Issue 2:
Spell check is not working in the new Teams app, while it worked fine in the "old/classic" Teams.
Cause:
If spell check works in the classic Teams app but not in the new Teams apps, then one of the following might be happening:
-
- Teams Spell Check is Disabled.
- Basic typing feature is not installed.
- Teams cache is corrupted.
How to Fix Spell Check issues in New Teams.
Method 1: Enable "Spell Checking" in Teams.
If Teams spell check isn't working, first make sure it's turned on:
1. Open Microsoft Teams and from the 3-dot menu next to your profile icon, open Settings.
2. In General tab, ensure "Enable spell check" checkbox is checked. If not, check it and restart Teams.
Method 2. Install "Basic typing" feature & Enable Autocorrect

The "Basic typing" feature contains the required spellcheckers and dictionaries for each installed Windows language. So, proceed and make sure that is installed on your system.
1. Go to Start > Settings > Time & language > Language and region.
2. Next to the installed language, click on 3-dot menu and select Language options.

Step 2. Enable Autocorrect.
Make sure that AutoCorrect is enabled on your system.
1. Go to Start > Settings > Time & language > Language and region.
2. Under Related settings, select Typing.
3. Set the following settings to ON.
-
Autocorrect misspelled words.
-
Highlight misspelled words.

1. Right-click on Teams icon on the Taskbar and Quit MS Teams.
2a. Press the Win
+ R keys to open the Run command box.
2b. Type the below command and hit Enter (OK) to clear the cache of new Teams app:*
- %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Packages\MSTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Microsoft\MSTeams
* Note: If you're using the classic Teams app then navigate to this location:
- %appdata%\Microsoft\Teams
3. Press CTRL + A to select all the contents and then press Delete to delete folders and files of the "MSTeams" folder.
4. Now, start Microsoft Teams and check if the problem persists.
Method 4. Uninstall & Reinstall Microsoft Teams.
The final method to fix the Microsoft Teams spell checker issue, is to completely reinstall the app. To do that:
1. Navigate to Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
2. Find the Microsoft Teams app and from the three dots
