FIX: Windows 11 lock screen after 1 minute of inactivity.
If you are using Windows 11/10 and the screen locks after 1 minute of inactivity, continue reading below to fix the problem.
Symptom: When the system is idle for 1-2 minutes, Windows 11 locks the device and displays the login screen to re-authenticate.
Cause: The above symptom typically happens due to screen saver settings, or due to Dynamic Lock feature in Sign-in options.
How to FIX: Windows 11 locks and displays the logon screen after you're away.
To prevent Windows 11 to to automatically lock the device and to display the logon screen after being away for 1-2 minutes, follow the steps below:
Step 1. Disable Screen Saver & Screen Lock.
The first step to fix the mentioned problem, is to check if the "On resume, display logon screen" option is enabled on the screen save settings.
1. Right-click on your desktop and click Personalize. (or go to Start > Settings > Personalization).
2. In Personalization options, select Lock screen.
3. Then click Screen Saver.
4. In Screen Saver settings, uncheck the On resume, display logon screen checkbox, to prevent Windows to display the logon screen after resume, or just disable the screensaver (set it to "None"). When done, click OK.
5. Now leave your computer untouched for at least 1 minute and check if the problem is solved. If not, continue to the next step.
Step 2. Disable Dynamic Lock in Sign-in options.
Windows 10/11 has a new security feature called "Dynamic Lock" that allows you to pair your PC with your phone via Bluetooth and when you move away from your PC and the Bluetooth signal drops, Windows automatically locks the PC .
So, the second reason that can cause Windows 11 to display the logon screen after 1 minute of inactivity, is that you have allowed Windows to lock your device when you're away with your mobile phone. To de-activate Dynamic Lock:
1. Go to Start > Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.
2. In Sign-in options, scroll down to Additional settings, click on Dynamic lock and disallow Windows to lock your device when you're away, by unchecking the relevant box.
